Potatoes are harvested in a short window, but they're eaten all year. That mismatch is the whole reason cold storage exists as an industry. Without it, farmers are forced to sell almost immediately after harvest — right when everyone else is selling too, and prices are at their lowest.
The post-harvest price problem
When an entire region's crop hits the market within a few weeks of each other, supply outpaces demand and prices fall sharply. Farmers without storage access have little choice but to sell at whatever price is offered, often well below what the same produce fetches just a few months later.
What storage changes
- Farmers can hold stock and sell when prices recover, rather than at the harvest-time low
- Traders get a stable supply to work with across more of the year, not just harvest season
- Post-harvest spoilage and physical loss drop significantly compared to open storage
Built for the region
Our cold storage facility in Naugachia is built primarily around potatoes, with capacity for other produce as well. Being based directly in Bhagalpur district means growers don't have to transport their harvest far to reach temperature-controlled storage — which matters, because time and handling both affect how well produce holds up.
